We pride ourselves on only using high quality materials in our conversions, so the overall result of 8/10 stars from George is an excellent testimonial for all of the hard work that has gone into developing our exclusive T6 Nomad Ranger.
“The Ranger cleverly doubles as a four-door, five-seat car and a practical weekend camper.”
Construction & Layout
When you’re building a VW campervan the safe option is to do the default layout with the kitchen at the side and a rock ‘n’ roll bed. The kitchen is to the rear, split into two banks of cabinets, while the roof hinges from the front to maximise kitchen headroom.
All The Toys
This campervan has been judged perfectly being based on a Kombi model in T32 Highline-spec with the 140bhp 2.0-litre TDI engine and the seven-speed DSG gearbox.
The Highline spec means you get Climatic air-conditioning, automatic-lights and auto-dimming rear view mirror with a rain sensor, a heated windscreen, leather steering wheel and gear knob plus fog lamps, alloys and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm. Nomad have further added a leather seat upgrade and a sat nav system to the cab. So it has all the toys you’re ever going to need!
Wagens Roll
The new dashboard does ooze ‘special’ and is one of the best in the Campervan World. It’s the engine and gearbox that makes it a memorable drive. The 140bhp engine is as nippy as you’d want, while the seven-speed DSG gearbox shifts gears so smoothly you can rarely notice it.
Kitchen Class
With the roof raised it was time to fully inspect the rear kitchen. Two banks of cabinets form the kitchen with a bank running from the floor to ceiling on the passenger side housing the fridge and storage, with a pod on the driver’s side being inset with a SMEV 9222 two-burner hob and sink. It’s much easier to load than a side kitchen layout. The test vehicle’s red and grey cabinets looked great and were very sturdily constructed – Nomad’s hire business, Bunk Campers know how to build tough and durable conversions and it shows.
Lounging & Dining
The centre of the Ranger consists of a row of standard VW Caravelle seats, which are as safe as possible for families. Trimmed in the optional black leather it all looks very modern and business-like.
With both cab seats swiveled to face backwards, you’ve got a sort of wide dinette and lounge arrangement.
Campervan Verdict
The base vehicle’s spec was spot-on and the combination of the 140bhp engine and DSG gearbox is perfection.
Equally, the safe travel seats are a big plus for families, while the well-equipped kitchen and rear storage makes it a convenient vehicle to load and cook in. It would make for a very practical people carrier or day van.
